So since its raining right now, Ive decided to spend some time today trying to figure out this song on guitar. When I was 16, I would have considered this redneck cock-rock, and deliberately avoided it as a fashion statement. But what I realize now is that its charm is in that it wasnt composed by the academic community of Vienna who were kind of painting by numbers, but instead is more colloquial folk music, and yet still just as tonically valid. It was composed by an individual with a lot of talent, and then that composition was tempered a bit by the judgements of his community. I do think Richards was quite obviously influenced by American southern players, though, many of whom remain unknown to this day.
