So...some days. Yesterday I was with a young husband whose wife was very broken trying to decide what to do; with a young pastor and wife who were trying to mend their marriage; and with a 75 year old, great man of God, moving his beloved wife to long term care - her mind gone. Stoic, overwhelmed. Some days. There are times when God speaks, miracles happen, hope springs into life, prayers are answered, and friends flood through the door. And then there are some days; when all you seem to be able to do is put one foot in front of another, take the steps, go through the motions even with overwhelming emotion, and press on. And you want to run away, to quit, to lose heart. Here is perspective: We feel afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; knocked off out feet, but not destroyed; We do not lose heart, for though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Cor 4) Dear ones, on those days it is OK to be discouraged, to be brokenhearted, to be in pain, to cry and to pace the floor. And it is OK to ask God lots of questions...hard questions. When you feel that, still cling to this thought, this perspective: momentary light...eternal weight of glory...beyond all comparison...worked in me today...this day. My heart may be broken but it is not lost. Not lost. Some days feel like that...are like that. But be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord - knowing this (knowing this) that you work is not in vain (1 cor 15:58). Let some days be transformed even as you simply, faithfully do the right thing...one step, one hard step at a time. It will pass, and you will know as you are known. Some day.
