So some kids skateboard and some create and some hang out at malls. When they get a bit older, they find things that interest them. So I asked my son what he was doing driving around Chicago in his trusty old Honda Civic and one large container of liquid nitrogen the other day. I thought it was a fairly honest question as I had no clue what one would do with it aside from making two pieces of metal fit together within each other due to contraction and expansion using thermal differences. But liquid nitrogen? Isnt that a trifle extreme? His reply was... The liquid nitrogen was for playing around with levitating a superconductor over a magnet... The superconductor is non-magnetic until you cool it to a specific temperature. Once there, it does stuff to electricity and magnetic fields, and allows you to do stuff like in this youtube clip...
