So summer, has made a brief return, with temperatures in the upper 80s, along with high humidity is making it feel like the low to mid 90s. This will continue throughout all of labor day weekend. In addition, there is a chance for some isolated/scattered thunderstorms each and every day this weekend. This is a good opportunity with the warmer weather, to savor the last days of summer before many go off to school next Tuesday. It is also opening weekend for college football, so we have a few games being played across the state. First off, the Cavaliers of UVA playing BYU in Charlottesville, kickoff is at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon! The forecast does call for the chance for a few isolated showers and thunderstorms to be around, but overall if you plan on heading over there you should be ok, but do stay weather aware. Temperatures at the start of the game should be in the upper 80s, with a heat index in the 90s, so please be sure to drink plenty of fluids, but as we head later on in the game it should begin to cool down, with highs in the low 80s by the end of the game. In Harrisonburg, the Dukes of JMU are facing against Central Connecticuit State! Kickoff is at 6:00! Temperatures then will be in the low 80s, but towards the end of the game we will be in the mid to upper 70s. There is also the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm early on but as the sun sets, whatever has developed will taper off. Go Dukes!! And in Richmond, we have the Spiders matching up against VMI! With the kickoff being at 6:00, temperatures will be in the low 80s but should cool to the upper 70s by the end of the game. There might be a shower or storm around, but I think most if any should stay to the west. I would also like to wish the best of luck to the Hokies of VA Tech playing against Alabama in Atlanta tomorrow night! Tuesday, when most kids are starting school, looks a bit iffy. The morning looks dry but as we head into the afternoon, with the daytime heating, there could be a few storms around, with highs in the mid 80s. The cold front will move through late Tuesday into Wednesday and we should dry out for the rest of the week, which is great news for the NASCAR races in Richmond next weekend! Highs will cool down a bit, down to the upper 70s/low 80s.
