So terribly sad to learn of Robin Williams passing. I dont think Ive ever interviewed a single comedian who didnt cite Robin as a personal influence. Not many people know this, but Robin mentored many, many comedians -- never taking credit, but always supporting standups. Back in the 70s, Robin actually accompanied his buddy Jay Leno to Jays first Tonight Show performance (if you can find the footage, you can even hear Robins instantly recognizable laugh in the background). Hollywood is full of jealous people, but Robin was never one of them. I didnt know the man, but I know so many people who did. And, honestly, I have never heard anything but enormous praise for what a kind and generous guy he was off camera. The entertainment world lost more than an icon tonight. It lost a true friend to everyone who wants to be a part of that industry.
