So that letter to Mr.President was real? Early last week a letter made the rounds online purportedly written by an Army officer in the front lines of the war on Boko Haram highlighting all that was wrong with the campaign and how senior officer were self sabotaging the efforts. Expectedly, I read so many military experts online castigating the contents of the letter, claiming that the letter was not from an officer. I kept my thoughts to myself because two weeks ago, the Nigerian Army Public Relations Corp held a five day training for Defense Correspondents across the media industry at Bonny Camp, during that session my Crime Correspondent got scoop on the impending banning of all military personnel from operating Facebook and Twitter accounts. Yesterday, the authorities at 7 Division held a media conference intimating journalists that the letter written to Mr.President was authentic and it is from a Colonel and that the Colonel has been arrested and removed from his duty post. According to my source at the Division, the said Colonel is well respected among the rank and file for his passion and patriotism. Moreso, the issues he raised in that letter to Mr.President are developments that should be looker into because many field officers have corroborated it. The letter writer raised the issue of so many top officers seeing the war as a means of making money. Anybody who has been closer to military circles is aware that this claim has been around even among serving officers. I still maintain that the Armed Forces of Nigerian can wipe out Boko Haram in a matter of weeks if they really wish to.
