So the Department Of Traffic, DOT, is cranking it up a notch to get your ass good. They are installing speed cameras every where they think will trap you good. This is not about public safety. Its about public rape to collect revenue. They are going to reduce the speed limit from 30mph to 25mph and to sweeten the pie, their pie, they are going to use radar to bag you. Call it drone tickets. Its in the mail and it wont be a check. In the meantime the DOT is at logger heads with the federal government. They are not in compliance with the federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, MUTCD. If you noticed in the past few years many roads and highways being redesigned cutting out some lanes and marking them with streaky white lines. This is all about signs. New York State didnt change the signs mandated by the federal government. In other words most of the traffic signs are mounted too high, and should be 7 feet from the ground to the bottom of the sign. Some roadways with one or two lanes can conform to the federal guide lines spelled out in the MUTCD. So instead of DOT conforming to the MUTCD and install traffic signs at the proper height they cut down the number of lanes to conform to the MUTCD. For example. On Shore Front Parkway DOT used concrete barriers to cut down, or eliminate lanes, in order to comply with MUTCD. They were special made to order barriers with the yellow platter pus duck faces. If you can show me where eliminating lanes on a public street or highway is a traffic improvement something is wrong. Bottom line. When you receive your summons in the mail it was most likely given out on a road or highway that does not conform to MUTCD. You can fight the ticket if you know your traffic laws pertaining to the mounted height in that area. Now, go get em.
