So, the May 22nd National Dragster was a pretty good read, whats that you say?? “Gee, Chicago Jon, tell us MORE”! why, certainly, some items of note……..Doc Halladay & his venerable Telstar was holding onto the 8th slot in the Big Bud Shootout………TV listings had a thing on The Nashville Network, which when I watched it,(having taped it) ½ way thru I suddenly thought, “wheres my DIO hat”? which is an odd thought, until I backed the tape up & went thru in slow-motion….turns out I walked thru the background, wearing that hat…….there was a Crane ad with Joe Amato, they used a shot of his Garlits-esque streamliner, an odd choice since he only ran it once…….Chuck Seyler had his rail for sale, as did Larry Peternal, dumping hisP/S Imperial for 7.5K, and the Bud King Hauler could be had for “only” 47K………………a cool full-page ad for the Grand Nationals, with Dante Pastorini…………remember those Tommy Johnson SR. ads where he had a little rap at the top?? In this issue, he discussed how he wanted an ‘Alf’-doll for his birthday………another full page ad, this time for the CAR CRAFT ALL-STARS, do they even still do that anymore??..........and in the Cajuns Coverage, an awesome display spontinaity & resources, Les Lovett was taking airiel-shots of the facilty from a chopper, Billy Meyer sneezed a blower, he got the chopper to hover while he took shot of the Safety Safari arriving……….and closing with the ‘visitor-guide’ for the Cajuns, under the heading “other”, a lot of places with one-word-name-titles (example: FREDDIES) had to wonder how many of those places might have been strip-joints??
