So the Muslim clerics in this country have decided to issue a Fatwa which prohibits would-be jihadists from joining the Islamic State extremists in Iraq. They have qualified this statement with a proviso: Muslims have a “moral obligation” to help those in war-torn Syria and Iraq, but that they should do so “without betraying their own societies”. This Fatwa isnt worth the paper it is written on and is as weak as it is vacuous because Islam is fundamentally extremist. I saw someone post some pictures of an Egyptian Muslim family recently from the 1960s. They were dressed in western clothes and had nothing covering their heads. The fundamentalists in the last 30 years have so sown a web of fear amongst the Islamic faith that they are afraid to go against the extreme viewpoint and dictate for fear of being punished with the usual beheading, stoning to death or amputation that follows any opposition to the Islamic hardline view. The Fatwa also goes against everything that this country stands for. Freedom. For, though those wishing to join in the Islamic State cause are misguided individuals, in my opinion, I would stand up for their right to choose their path in life so long as they are willing to pay the consequences for their actions. Fatwas have no place in our society because they are part of Islamic Law i.e. Sharia Law, and that cannot be recognised or given any credence in this country otherwise we further distance ourselves from the Muslim community and weaken our own Laws. So lets not hear any more of this politically diplomatic shit and get to the heart of the matter. You go to support IS, you dont come back and your families are deported with you. That would solve the problem. Simples.
