So the National Party still looks likely to get 9 seats in the Victorian Parliament even though it only gets around 5% of the overall vote?! Whereas the Greens get at least twice that and have only one seat in the lower house (for the first time) and maybe 4 or 5 in the upperhouse. (Not sure if the 9 seats mentioned include upper house or not. Does anyone know how many lower house seats the Nats are likely to get?) And from this article it becomes clear that not only have the Nats had a lot of seats on a small percentage of the vote, but that from this theyve had party status and all the extra funding that goes with that. Really, when you think of the across the board opposition from the major parties to the Greens, the dismissive and often hostile press over the years, and never having had party status funding, and much less funding that goes with less mps... And no big financial backers such as the other parties have... the Greens have done extremely well, and given all these obstacles, the level of support for their policies is probably way more than the percentage of the vote they get indicates. Gradually the word will get out. Gradually the tofu-eating, latte-sipping hipster stereotypes will get broken down. Go the Greens.
