So the Suarez talks continue.... heres my take on how things stand. The discussions on what/how/when is still locked behind closed doors. But dont for one minute think that Barcelona are swooping in to steal our prized asset. First off the 75 million needs to be agreed (some sources say barca have offered it) but we as a club are still in the driving seat. It is unusual for clubs to pay for a player in full. its always about the payment structure and how much over how many months/years. Barca will be most likely looking to pay this over a number of years and it is their right to apply for that. Look at Madrid with the Bale deal. word has it that theyve only paid 2 installments so far to Spurs and apparently still owe them on the Modric deal. Now this puts us in the strongest position. Because even if Barca (or any other club) match the 75 million valuation, we are still in the driving seat. We can accept a bid but we also have to accept the installment terms and thats a whole other kettle of fish. John W Henry is a very very shrewd business man and is not to be messed with. Hes not afraid to speak out and we saw that clearly with the mocking of Arsenal over their attempted procurement of Suarez last season. This is a man who will not be held to ransom by anyone and will make damn sure that IF and when we do sell Suarez to Barca (or anyone else) it will be the right deal for us. Hes a ruthless man. You only have to look at the sacking of King Kenny to see that. Every player/club are vulnerable to the buyout clause. But even when the clause is met the selling club still hold the power and with financial fair play in effect its getting increasingly hard for the powerhouse clubs like Madrid and Barca to just throw money at people. Even oil rich Man City are being extremely frugal with their spending this summer. Most of us are resigned to losing Luis Suarez this summer but one thing is for sure. Its not going to be a steal for Barca. And people complaining about how long its taking? THIS IS THE THIRD HIGHEST TRANSFER IN FOOTBALL HISTORY!!!! These things take time but I have the utmost faith in our owners to get the best deal possible for our football club. YNWA #Christian
