So...the U.S. in not a true Democracy, right? Were a democratic republic. This means that we elect people to represent us in running the country. It starts at the local level (e.g. City Councilmen, County Commissioners, etc.) and goes right up to the President. The trouble is that nowadays we dont let our leaders actually run stuff. As a culture, weve completely lost confidence in their ability to do so - so we snipe and criticize and sharpshoot and micromanage EVERY GODDAM DECISION they make. Yep, every single one. Individually, we think we should have a say in how things are run. Every citizen thinks their voice should be heard, even after the election. The end result is that nothing gets done - or, the few things that do get done take YEARS longer than they should. On a small scale, little dinky Pensacola is a shining example of this. Your city/town probably is too. Nothing gets accomplished without a big fight among the special interest groups. I often wonder why on earth anyone would go into politics these days? To live and work under such critical scrutiny would not be to my liking. But I guess its our own damn fault: If we keep electing idiots and morons to public office, can we really be that upset when they do stupid stuff of which we disapprove?
