So the Women at Work Conference. Excellent and so thought - TopicsExpress

So the Women at Work Conference. Excellent and so thought provoking. I am still processing all the information. So here is a short run down of some of thie information that touched me. One of the speakers asked the powerful question what would you do if you knew you could not fail? My answer is SO MANY THINGS... such as be an artist, writer, explorer, speak out, speak my truth without fear, downsize, build an eco house, go walking in the hills on my own and on and and on. Dr Angela OHagan from Glasgow Caledonian University spoke about the neo-classical economic models e.g. if you are not in paid work then you are considered at LEISURE! I am still outraged by this outdated model. And .. the Care Sector are not considered key in economic activity even though 160,000 women are employed in this area. What does this say about the value of this? And.. the pay gap between is 13.9%!! I attended the Fairtrade workshop in the afternoon where we were shown a breakdown of costs/profit from a pair of trainers. The country where it is produced receives the least and brand and retailer receives the most. Plus 1/2 of the worlds population is women yet we only earn 1/10 of the worlds income. 70% of the worlds poor are women. Very, very interesting conference. Well worth a trip and so good to see schools attending.
