So the final post about this weeks IIT- IIT Kharagpur. We will tell you about the famous start-ups and alumni of IIT Kgp. Famous Start-ups: 1) Capillary Tech(capillarytech), the Bangalore-based startup was set up in August 2008 by IIT Kharagpur alumni Reddy, Krishna Mehra Ajay Modani.Incubated by IIT Kharagpur with a soft loan of Rs 15 lakh. It is currently working with more than 100 major brands and is reaching out to 50 million consumers. Also, the company is catering to over 10,000 paying merchant outlets in India, the South-east Asia, Greater China, the Middle East, South Africa, the UK and the US. The company claims to have captured over 60 per cent of the organised retail sector (over the past 4 years) to become the largest retail CRM provider in India. 2) Betaglide (betaglide): Amritanshu Anand along with Anshul Singhle and Srijan Kedia started BetaGlide in June 2012 while they were still students at IIT kharagpur. BetaGlide is a powerful, reliable and easy to use tool to assist mobile application developers and testers to test their app over the cloud using real devices and real testers/user. Betaglide was competing with 42 teams from acrss the globe at the RBPC which a global student startup competition held by Rice University, Houston, they did not win the competition but won the Mercury Fund Investment Prize and received other commitments totaling over $1M as opposed to the originally intended $1oo,000 prize money. 3) SELCO India (selcofoundation.org): The Solar Electric Light Company, India or SELCO India is a for-profit social enterprise based in Bangalore, India which has played an instrumental role in improving living standards of poor households in rural India especially in the state of Karnataka through solar energy based interventions and low smoke cook stoves. SELCO was founded in 1995 by Dr.Harish Hande. SELCO India has installed solar light systems in 125,000 houses and plans to aims to reach over 200,000 households by 2014.Dr. Hande was awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2011 for his pragmatic efforts to put solar power technology in the hands of the poor, through his social enterprise SELCO India Famous Alumni: 1)Sundar Pichai is an alumnus from IIT Kharagpurs Metallurgical and Materials Engineering department, passed out in 1993. He currently heads some of Googles biggest products, including Chrome and Android. 2)Vinod Gupta is the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of infoGROUP. Mr. Gupta was also nominated and confirmed to be the United States Consul General to Bermuda as well as nominated by the President to be the United States Ambassador to Fiji. 3) Arun Sarin: Ex CEO Vodafone 4) Ajit Jain: Pass out of 1972 batch, Ajit is an employee of Berkshire Hathway who currently heads several reinsurance businesses. Buffett ,the greatest investor of our lifetime suggested that if he, Charlie Munger and Ajit were adrift in a rowboat in a dangerous storm, the priority should be on saving Ajit’s life 5) Bedabrata Pain: Scientist at NASA, has 87 patents. Recently directed a film, Chittagong! 6) Arjun Malhotra: Co-founder of HCL Technologies 7)Arvind Kejriwal is an Indian politician and social activist. Kejriwal won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2006 for his contribution to the enactment of the Right to Information Act and for his efforts to empower the poorest citizens of India.
