So, the fire department showed-up at midnight to douse a pot of somebodys burning beans. At 2:12 p.m., 14 hours later, the elevators in my apartment complex are still turned-off. Numerous calls to the Monterey Fire Department have resulted in no response. The bloody firemen have the only keys to re-activate the elevators. We have some 85 and 90 year old seniors living in this fire trap of a building and they need the elevators to conduct their daily business, including doctors visits and the occasional medical emergency. So, the Monterey Fire Department sits on its collective lazy butt while permitting a life threatening situation they created to exist.
