So the guy who was the almost-victim of an attempted carjacking in Doylestown last night by the man matching the description of the one suspected of murdering six members of his family did not actually become a victim because he was legally carrying a handgun. He pulled it on the would-be carjacker who had a knife on him and fired a few shots, scaring the attacker away. This is exactly the reason most people who own guns want to have them. This could have had a very different outcome for that innocent person had he not been carrying. Im no gun nut, but I am a firm supporter of our second amendment rights to protect ourselves from whack jobs like this. Im also in favor of reasonable background checks and really strict home storage to make sure obviously unstable people dont get guns. But all too clearly, those determined to commit crimes with guns will get them however necessary, and the rest of us should retain the ability to protect ourselves from them. Just sayin.
