So the journalist who wrote this article has (almost) the same name as me, which is unnerving! However I was interested to read about her sense of identity as British because of being English-born but living in Scotland. That too is me - Ive lived in Scotland since I was 11, for much much longer than I ever lived in England. I feel comfortable describing myself as British because it allows me to accommodate both my sense of English heritage and my life, past, present and future, in Scotland. As far as the referendum goes, I feel it approaching with increasing dread. Like the journalists children, I anticipate it with the sort of horror of a scheduled amputation. How will life in Scotland be, whatever the vote is? Its looking like a marginal win for whichever side manages to come out on top. What does the losing half of the country do next? Across the road from our house is a shop that very enthusiastically displays its allegiances in its shop window, and today I saw a notice it had put up calling for better behaviour as they have suffered vandalism and aggression as a result. Further along the street is a sort of flag-war going on between two houses. On the Internet I find people proudly declaring themselves Scottish not British on the Yes side - I cant say that and wonder where that leaves me. Its kind of confusing. heraldscotland/mobile/comment/columnists/im-english-i-feel-british-but-ill-still-be-voting-yes.25245794
