So the ladies asked me about celibacy. Funny how thats been a topic lately; I gave a conference on Guam last week about it. One lady said, since our priests are sometimes involved in an aksidente, (accident; see how they term it when priests father children), why not let them marry and be tunas, (straight, as in righteous) and have children legitimately. Then the oldest lady, born before the war, said, Yanggen siña gumai assagua si Zacarias, håfa na ti siña pago man assagua i mamale? (If Zachary could have a wife, why cant the priests marry today?) I explained to her the difference between the Jewish priesthood and ours, and other factors, but it just shows you how an 80-year-old Chamorro knows her biblical stories more than our own kids with all their modern education. Our elders knew their Bible stories and catechism!
