So the local Komen Austin posted their grants for this year & I have to say that I am very disappointed in them. I know in some cities the local organization supports the walkers and crew of the Komen 3 day but Austin is not one and actually tries to persuade people not to raise money for the 3 day but to keep it local. For those that dont know the majority of the money for the 3 day goes to research and finding a cure for cancer is my passion. I still supported Komen Austin because they gave grants to 2 organizations that do great work in Austin but they are not giving any money to those organizations this year. Guess you wont see me at the Austin RFTC this year. #1 with no funds - The Breast Cancer Resource center provides patient advocates that will go to Dr appts and infusions with you so you dont have to do it alone. They have 24 hour phone lines and online forums so patients going thru treatment always have someone to talk to. They provide emergency support for utilities when BC patients need a little help. #2 with no funds - Planned Parenthood. After all the BS of cutting PP funds and then reinstating the funds, this year they cut them with no fanfare. The more young women I meet that have Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, and Cervical Cancer the more I believe young women need a low cost option to go for screenings. You may have reasons to not like PP but saving the lives of young women is very important to me.
