So, the lovely Vilma Gonzalez and Danielle Sanchez had a great idea to counteract the negative of late on social media with some positive. Hey, I was off FB for a week,and I still heard about the negative, lol. Its like the mafia...just when you think youre out, they drag you back in. First, I want to borrow some wise womans words. Jenn Sterlings to be exact. One, because they capture what Im feeling, and two, with Melodys upcoming release and Vicious Cycle edits, Im just keeping my head above water at the moment. I just wanted to say.... being an author isnt easy. The times change, the amazon algorithms change, kindle unlimited changes things drastically, readers change, finances change, our books stop selling, we dont hit the top 100, we dont hit lists, etc, etc, etc. ITS HARD OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. IT HAS BEEN HARD OUT THERE FOR MONTHS. IT IS STILL HARD. Jenn is so right. It is so hard. And while we authors are at home drowning in wine or chocolate or whatever vice of choice, we dont stop to think that were not alone. As the late, great Eleanor Roosevelt once said, No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Happiness is of our own choice, and sometimes we have to decide to be happy regardless of where we are on the journey. I didnt get into this business to make money. Being a published author was a dream of mine since I was a little girl. It was a long, hard road. Those times of struggle taught me to appreciate what I have, and I have been blessed in the business for two years. Did I dream of getting to quit teaching and write full-time? Oh hell yes, I did, lol. And since this is my job now, I gotta keep on keeping it on with the writing. The best thing is I still have stories I want to tell. Do I hope those books put me back on the lists Ive made again? Sure. Its it going to devastate me if/when they dont, sure. But Ill just get right back up again bc thats what life is all about.
