So the move went without a hitch. I am now within range of work, that I could mortar my department (about 2 miles-ish)... Screw you, oil companies. I called to get the internet setup, along with the other utilities, a few days ago and all that went without a hitch - which is very odd in my life. I really need to write a book on some of the crap that happens in my world. But I digress... Now comes moving day and, sure enough, there was a hitch... I just want to send a large middle finger to Cox Cable. I havent had cable television for almost 7 years, mind you. My internet order was entered online and I planned to install it myself - no big deal. That was, until I got a call from Cox to confirm my order and lucky me, he was a silver tongued devil. He assisted with the confirmation of my internet order... It was determined the last guy who lived here didnt have Cox, during his 2 years here, and they needed to send a tech out to test the line. Ok, no problem, but now I had to pay for a Pro to come out... But it gets better... Then he asked if I was interested in packaging TV and phone. I told him its been at least a decade since I had a landline phone and about 7 years since I had cable Tv. I assured him that I really didnt feel like I was missing out and quite honestly the cost outweighed the value of the product, since I am not one for reality TV, Honey Boo Boos, etc. He understood and asked me if I was interested in trying it out again for $10 a month, PLUS it included the HBOs and Starz channels... I hesitated, you mean I can add cable to my internet package for $10, for a year, no contract, and it includes HBO and Starz? He assured me I had heard him right. Well, for $10 I can sell my soul and get cable TV again. So the cable guy comes today and hooks me up. This is when I realize I now have all the local channels, the religious channels, and HBO and Starz. No Discovery, no History Channel, no SyFy... Just the poverty channels and.... it gets better. HBO and Starz - all of them - dubbed in Spanish. Without realizing what I was getting into, yet again, I agreed to the Illegal Alien Package and sat here tonight fuming as I watched Matt Damon and Johnny Depp and Richard Gere all speaking with a terrible spanish dub. So now I have to decide. Call them and lay into them, telling them to poke their cable box far up their gilipollas? Or utilize this opportunity to get the channels I thought I should be getting, with HBO and Starz, plus the usual poverty local channels, for $10 a month... Well, I am going to try the later tomorrow... We shall see if I get full blown wall to wall cable, at late 1980s prices (when everything was in the clear on satellite)
