So the niece, age 6, and I were once again playing Disney princess dress-up. I suggested that instead, Belle and Cinderella could put on a play. This was met with approval, and she proceeded to direct a production where the budding princesses helped each other pick out outfits for the ball. All was fine until they discovered they were both going with Prince Charming. I tried to veer it off into brothers, a la Into the Woods, to no avail. A full-fledged cat fight ensued, followed by making up, followed by -- to my surprise -- Cinderella asking Belle to the ball. I neutrally asked if two princesses could go to a ball together, and she looked at me like I was from Mars and said yes. Curious, I asked if that meant Cinderella was Belles girlfriend. Also yes. With an explanation. And Aunt Randi, that could really happen because you can marry anyone you love, except for your family. And then she proceeded to tell me about her boyfriend, who is also 6. OK, then. I am clearly not needed for this one.
