So the update, little Harry is home, awaiting second opinions and the way forward, but a much better doggie. He is so enjoying his diet of chicken I might have to keep him on it forever but in the meantime I can happily hide his meds in the food and he scoffs the lot. When I went to the vet this morning he was thrilled to see me and I was able to cuddle him, he put his head on my shoulder and sighed like a little old man who has had a real bad time.... But a massive improvement over the previous day. By the end of today his drips were finished and he remains on antibiotics, cortisone, pain killers and something else which I am not sure of... The vets... I have advised them that I will be writing to them in more detail once I have managed to get my anger under control ... We have been going to these vets for over a decade, Vet house in Prince Alfred Street. While we will never return I will acknowledge the care that Andrew MacKenzie showed our little Harry once the whole saga unfolded. I also think they have great reception staff and have in the past enjoyed a good relationship, I end with this: when someone comes to see you with a patently ill dog in emergency hours, and have a record of being consistently good dog owners, do not ever pay them lip service, if you are too busy (despite them being there first) say so, if you need more time to make a diagnosis, verbalise it, but never ever assume something so idiotic as toothache from milk teeth when the dog is screaming with pain. If you dont know what to do, or what the diagnosis should be, have the courage to say that and suggest either that we wait for someone who does, or refer us for heavens sake. There is no embarrassment in suggesting a second opinion, and finally if you are the farm vet do not handle domestic animals. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes for our little hero, yesterday we thought he was never going to survive, today we have lots of hope.
