So the wonderful Matthew Weait has pointed out the undergraduate of the year awards run by a recruitment firm with various corporate sponsors - and that if you check out the entry criteria they are discriminatory against students with non-standard academic or family backgrounds, or who came to University via widening participation or access routes, and thus indirectly discriminate on age, gender, disability etc - is it any wonder that social mobility in this country is in reverse ? Anyone fancy a letter writing campaign to the organisers - or interested in our organising some alternative awards ??
