So then, tonights tour of animation oddities ends with Fleischer Studios Talkartoon BIMBOS INITIATION from 1931. Fleischer produced cartoons were distributed by Paramount, hence the Paramount title cards on this one. Dark and very, very strange. If you watched the last toon I posted, MINNIE THE MOOCHER, you may have noticed a certain closeness between Betty and dog-boy Bimbo. And youd be right. Bimbo is Bettys boyfriend, which makes the end of this cartoon, featuring a dog-eared Betty, even stranger. Give this one a watch. It features some amazingly smooth animation, nightmare imagery, song parody, and at around 33 seconds into the film, a famous rodent from a competing animation house being an absolute dick.
