So there I was this beautiful Saturday afternoon sitting on the deck, sipping Pinot and reading the July issue of Delaware Today. A wave of nostalgia swept over me because this year is the 25th Anniversary of "Best of Delaware". I flashed back to a day in 1985 when two folks from the March of Dimes popped into my office in the Radisson Hotel.They had an idea for a fund raiser that some other venues thought was too risque and/or were asking a ton of rental. The idea being that local gentlemen would preset themselves to be bid on for an exclusive date! The event was to be called "Bid for Bacherlors". Well, I Loved the idea! We did the event in 1986 and 1987. I have to tell you a whole lot of fun was had by a whole lot of folks raising a fair amount for the March of Dimes. The Radisson, Delaware Today, Kledaris Productions and others all contributed to its success. At a committe meeting after the second date a discussion ensued concerning the possibility of a differant type of event. Ruth Mankin, God bless her, said that in Washington there was an event called "Best of DC". She described it and suggested that perhaps we could do something similar. MoD and Lise Monte, representing DT, loved the idea and said DT would sponser it. We all agreed. "The Best of Delaware" was born!. Just a bit of trivia.
