So, there they were across from Macys on 34th street, vilifying the white man in the ears of anyone willing to hear. A group of Black Hebrew Israelites, or some variation of them, were gathered there holding up posters showing the evils of the white man. They held up another poster breaking down the various brown and black groups in the Americas as descendants of the 12 Tribes of Israel. When I first came upon them, they were staring down 3 policemen on horseback. The officers were not paying them any attention, but I guess they had to show they were defiant if the officers just happened to be in the area to keep the peace. What really amused me though, was one of their lookouts who protected the main speaker much like you see at NOI events, seemed to have no problem taking long gazes at the steady stream of white women walking by, notably their behinds. He was trying to do it on the sly, but his gaze would last for at least 2-3 seconds. As they walked by, his eyes would train themselves right on their posterior. The irony was deliciously humorous. Oh the things you see in New York City.
