So theres an approach to chronic homelessness called Housing - TopicsExpress

So theres an approach to chronic homelessness called Housing First. The idea is that it costs less to provide free rental housing to the chronically homeless, plus an assigned case worker, than it does to deal with the medical, legal, and other issues associated with leaving the chronically homeless on the street. Let me repeat that. It costs less. Utah has implemented the approach and has achieved a 70 percent reduction in chronic homelessness with the bonus that many of the folks in the program have been able to right themselves and become productive. Utah is a red state. Why, then, isnt this something our politicians are jumping all over? It saves money. It helps the less fortunate. It looks like a bipartisan slam dunk. Maybe it just doesnt resonate enough with the gun-toting, meat-eating, its-their-fault-theyre-homeless Christians of the GOP base in Georgia.
