So they announced the inductees into the Boxing Hall. I can be OK with Boom Boom. He was a really tough kid who enjoyed some success and some unfortunate notoriety, and while he really was not a great fighter in the big picture, he left a vivid mark for enough reasons to be recognized... sort of like when the Rock Hall recognizes a one hit wonder who may have a had a single Asteroid-Hitting-The-EARTH hit. Moving target, different criteria. Ill say something similar about Bowe. He was up and down, seemed lazy at times in prep but, looking back, who knows what was concussion stuff and what wasnt, and he wasnt a quitter in the ring having fought some very serious fights. But Prince Naseem Hamed? I dunno. His record would seem to suggest it. His impact, while active, in Britain, was huge! When I first saw him I thought we might have a crazy exceptional talent out there, but he really flamed out, not only in retiring at 28, but the last few fights I saw him in. He just wasn;t that good. he had been fast and powerful, so he could/would do a Roy Jones lightning leap in and one punch blast out. I was left with the feeling he was a hollow hero, but as I review it would seem he belongs as much as the other two guys above, and maybe he DID retire because the bones in his hands were shredded... but maybe my problem is because the one REAL guy he fought, Barrera, beat him up pretty seriously, and pretty easily.
