So they shut down the Special Anti-Crime Unit, then after 4 years - TopicsExpress

So they shut down the Special Anti-Crime Unit, then after 4 years they are looking to establish and give special armored vehicles to a Special Operations Group. This new grouping has the same mandate as SAUTT, it is also not supported by any specific new legislation, and its officers are under the direction of the NOCs Garvin Heerah (who was made notorious in the New Flying Squad debacle). And now the NOC has been moved to the Office of the Prime Minister despite all their lamentations about what obtained before. And despite all the nonsense about SAUTT being an illegal unit not a single matter in which SAUTT was involved has since been overturned by the courts and not a single defendant has obtained any relief based on illegally obtained evidence. And thats certainly not due to a lack of lawyers that are willing to try. And on the one hand Griffith is claming that like SAUTT the SOG will directly mitigate against the impact of rogue elements within the protective services, but on the other hand he is pretending that the SOG will report to the Office of Commisioner of Police and the Office of Chief of Staff. One is tempted to say that the more things change the more they stay the same, but that would not account for the lost years, the lost intel, the lost expertise, the lost training cycles, the lost institutional memory and capacity, and the additional time and space that has been granted to the masterminds of organised crime and cocaine in sweet T&T.
