So, this article makes a lot of good points about doing research on your own, how misandry isnt a real thing, etc, but I have to disagree with some things. Namely, I think trying to educate people (male or female) about feminism is exactly what I should be doing. Im always happy to give people links to articles. Theres a lot of literature out there and it can be hard to shift through if youve never read any of it before. That said, there are times when (mostly male) friends have demanded debates from me on feminism and sometimes it gets exhausting or I feel the current space is not appropriate for it, and Ill shut down the conversation. Thats not me failing as a feminist, thats me being a human being who gets tired of talking about how much the world sucks sometimes. And I am always within my rights to say No, I dont want to talk about this right now. (About anything, by the way, not just feminism). I can see what the author means when she talks about the danger of it always being a womans responsibility to educate men. It is dangerous. But the way to win this fight is through education. Yes, Id prefer they did their own research, but how will they know what to research if theyve never thought of it before? (And since privilege means not having to think about it, I will bet you they havent.) I do agree with her main pro tip for men: If a feminist says she doesnt want to explain things to you, respect that choice. Youll be ahead of the curve already! (Also, my spell checker doesnt think misandry is a real word. PRICELESS)
