So this boy has had 2 open heart surgeries, complex stomach surgery and a gastrostomy, was ventilated for 2.5 years, had a tracheostomy for over 4 years and now has a piece of rib grafted into his airway to enable him to breathe. In total hes had 23 procedures under general anaesthetic. He didnt eat till he was 3, didnt walk until 4.5 and is only just starting to talk but has overcome more in his short life than most of us do in a lifetime. Today he starts school, a milestone for any child but for Lyall a day that at times we never believed wed see. A massive range of emotions for us but the strongest one is pride! Were confident he will approach school with the same spirit, determination and humour that he has approached every other challenge in his life. So on this momentous day we wish him lots of love and luck and are very sure that once again The Incredible Smiley Lyall will show the world what a remarkable and amazing boy he is!
