So, this guy seems to be doing for archery what the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts is doing for hand-to-hand combat: going back to primary sources to discover how it was *actually* done, as opposed to how we thing it was. WHich I consider to be a Great Good Thing. One commentator on Modern Medievalist, where I got this from, points out correctly that skeletons of English/Welsh longbow archers show evidence of muscular development indicating they *did* use a dominant hand. Wonderful what bones tell us, yes, especially to me since my friend and former med student Larry Wilson Hays pointed out to me theyre not just stones we carry around in us, but organic, living, growing things.) Also I daresay six-foot longbows were probably not much used in gymnastic shooting - again, the English system seemed to involve fairly fixed positions for massed archers, anyway. But that just seems to me to indicate this guy specializes in Eastern archery. And many of his techniques seem easy to generalize. As a plus for me, my main protagonist Karyl Bogomirskiy uses Eastern archery techniques, learned from his Turco-Iranian Ovdan cousins. So this is news I can use. And just wait until his female Ovdan cousin, who unlike Karyl was raised to the techniques, turns up as an active player... (Non-spoilery hint!)
