So this ice bucket challenge has finally found its way to me - TopicsExpress

So this ice bucket challenge has finally found its way to me thanks to my good friend Ms Julie Carlsen There was no doubt I was going to donate, however, I was conflicted in whether I should actually record my own video dumping ice water on myself for a number of reasons: 1. Its a personal philosophy of mine not to follow the herd when it comes to social trends or group thinking 2. Theres been public criticisms about it wasting water 3. Some people have even labeled the videos as narcissism disguised as altruism However, those criticisms pale in comparison to the positives that have come from this hyper-viral social trend 1. People are having fun and for the fun factor alone, its awesome (theres too much negativity in this world anyway) 2. From a sociological perspective, there has not been a viral social charity campaign that has been this successful. I cant wait to see how far this will go 3. As of Tuesday, August 19, The ALS Association has received $22.9 million in donations compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year. Holy smokes! 4. But most importantly, it has brought the worlds attention to a disease thats honestly scary as f**k! Before this campaign, I had no idea how horrible Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is. Its a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to death. Basically, you have full mental capacity while you slowly lose control of your own body. Its a mental 2-5 year prison sentence until you die! I was sitting in my hotel room tonight trying to brainstorm how I could make my own clever video that wasnt like all the rest. But then I came across this video which left me speechless and I realized that there was no way ANYONE could ever top this. So I share with you the best ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video you will ever see and MUST see (as a replacement for mine). In keeping with the viral campaign, I challenge Pete Kreitchet, Alvin Mui, Ron Talwalkar, Oscar Agramonte, Nam Ho, Dan Ho, Neil Chau, Julie Beastwood to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. upworthy/the-last-ice-bucket-challenge-you-need-to-see-and-you-really-should-see-it?g=2&c=ufb1 (skip to 02:00 in the video and please watch till the end)
