So this lovely woman called Longzhen Han aka ‘Longy’ has started up a crowd funding campaign to help with the costs of her new book series Gusto and Gecko and she needs your help! I recently entered an illustration competition she was hosting to attract potential illustrators for her book and have proceeded to make it as a finalist. So having said that, I’ve been in close contact with Longy and have had the pleasure of experiencing her passion towards this project. She’s a traveled woman and I quote “I’ve traveled independently across 7 continents, over 30 countries and 90 cities mostly on a shoestring budget. I’ve volunteered at an orphanage in Kenya, eaten rooster testicles in Budapest, witnessed the Saints win Superbowl in New Orleans, trekked around glaciers and lagoons in Torres del Paine, kayaked in the rough Adriatic Sea off Dubrovnik, flirted with penguins in Antarctica…and stories go on”. Now she wants to share the magic of the world and what it beholds with children aged 5-8 via the Gusto and Gecko series. So I’ve talked about Longy, and now the book. Gusto and Gecko follows two friendly protagonists called (you guessed it!) Gusto and Gecko, who are in the form of a small boy and his lizard pal. Together they utilize a time machine to allow them to travel back and forth across the globe all the while taking their young readers with them for the ride. The series aims to introduce children to various animals, plants, landscapes and food. It also aims to broaden the horizons for their young audience and encourage them to be inspired to discover the world that they inhabit as they grow older. As you can imagine, this will help children grasp cultural differences and the many traditions that they posses which is very important for children to understand, especially at an early age. Overall this series aims to improve literacy in rural Australia via collaborating with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Can I also just add that Longy is working with children’s hospitals all around Australia and has pledged to provide them with copies of the book once its released. This project has such good intentions not just for its readers, but its also helping the broader society too. If you have a few dollars that you’re willing to put towards a good cause, you cannot go wrong by donating to Gusto and Gecko. They haven’t got much time left and they’re so close to their goal!! pozible/project/183060
