So this one late afternoon back in 2004. Id been out shooting a TV story for the 7 Oclock bullie. News boss calls me and tells me we dont have a sports anchor for that night and asks me what Im doing. Forever reluctant about the whole TV thing, I already didnt like the direction of that conversation (in the late 90s they had forced me to shoot Stand Ups---the parts where the reporter shows his/her face). Then in his neutral, but dictatorial voice he says I want you to put aside everything you are doing because you are going to anchor tonights sports bulletin. We didnt wear ties and jackets back then, so I couldnt use appropriate attire as an excuse. And so my reporting days came to an end gradually. I even learnt to enjoy anchoring years later.
