So this past weekend I went to Sunday River with a couple of my friends. What I can say is that one, it is worth at least twice your 29 dollar lift ticket, and two, I wish I had a DH bike. Extremely challenging terrain, with tight singletrack and steep trails, along with big jumps and drops. Our first run took 45 minutes. We had to walk at least half of the double black diamond we went on, and it was later told to us that that was one of the easier ones. The best trail, in my opinion, Tango and Crash (if some of you slightly older individuals get the pun) had about fifteen berms, with several being fifty feet long and three feet high. The biggest thing I can say is do it. Here are some photographs. By no means, however do you need a downhill bike, although you definitely need some suspension, and a good pair of gloves.
