So this week, I conferenced with all students in all of my classes about their grades and it was a great success in my opinion. Ultimately, I find grades extremely problematic and arbitrary and really do wish I could just get rid of them. After this week, working with my colleagues (2 math teachers share an elective with me), I think they see the value but havent necessarily bought in. At the end of the day, some are still looking to use grades as a tool to keep kids compliant and another student was just railing on about how it is unfair that another student got the same grade as her and he didnt work as hard... so gross. How can we get more colleagues involved?
