So those of you who know us personally know that Laurie and I try to be very transparent people, but tonight Im going to put a little more out there than I normally do. Our calling to Nicaragua has been a blessing to our family in so many ways, especially watching God work through our journey the 12 months prior to leaving. That being said, the past 6 weeks have been the toughest of my life. Of all the military training and overseas deployments, they dont hold a candle to the stress we have worked through and the exhaustion that we have come to know as the new norm. Why, with all the positive posts and upbeat news, am I going here now? There is a misconception in the Christian culture that missionaries are some sort of super-Christian and are placed out of reach of attacks from Satan. Let me just say - HOGWASH! There have been times over the past 6 weeks that I have questioned Gods judgement in my abilities to lead my family in this environment. Yes, you heard that correctly! Satan knows when our defenses have been weakened, praying on the physical and mental limitations we face as humans. And, when he finds the weak link in our armor, he attacks ferociously and reminds you of all the previous trials you have had to grow through for God to bring you where you are. Does this change our familys calling? Does this mean that we are not equipped to do the work that God has placed before us? No. What this means is that we are human, and, as all other humans on this planet, we will continue to battle our sinful nature and those subtle suggestions Satan uses to pull us away from God. We will stumble, we will fail, we will crawl back to the Cross each day, and we will never forget the Grace that God gives us. So, are we tired? Are we emotionally drained? Are we fighting our flesh tooth-and-nail? Yes, every day. But, are we growing? Are we pursuing? Are we equipped and renewed by His Spirit? Yes, every day, and we pray that you are too. - J
