So today ALONE I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching 3 separate videos of some form of police brutality or misuse of force on a black man. Now personally knowing a handful of law enforcement officers I dont want to make an uneducated negative generalization about police but what I WILL say is that the value of the life of the AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE (Or male of color) is almost nothing in this country. society, world, etc and its SICKENING! Not to get all pro-black but the lives of these men, some fathers/brothers/sons/uncles/friends, have been taken away without such a disregard as if their existence is superficial and expandable. I live my life with PURPOSE on a day to day basis. I did NOT have aspirations to be a dope/trap boy or a thief or a gang banger or a or a rapper or an athlete but a SUCCESSFUL MAN whose used his brain to get ahead in life instead of assimilating to a typical stereotype of what society sees of men in my culture! Not to discredit the rapper or athlete but stereotypically thats all that the wider society sees us as, profitable pawns in a hierarchy to become wealthier while we barely reap the fruits of our efforts! I strived to be a great individual, a great father, a great son, a great friend, a successful young professional and the fact that my life and my sons life and my friends and family members lives are not seen as valuable really upsets me. To know that I, a young black man who came from a working class middle class family went to higher education institution on several ACADEMIC scholarships, a man who has been voluntarily giving his time and efforts to many community based organizations, who is a family man, who is a Christian man, who prides himself on strong morals and value while respecting others difference of opinion other than mine, a man who makes a conscious effort to positively impact the lives of young men of color and young men in general, both personally and professionally, can LITERALLY walk outside and be shot, killed, choked out, harassed, abused, and know that all my lifes work to be the man that I am and strive to be or that the lives of the men who I call friends/brothers, or the lives of the men in my family, or the life of the young teenage boy I am raising, or the lives of the many men that I do not know but are striving to be successful and break stereotypes of what we are force-fed by social media and mainstream media that men of color are portrayed to be is disheartening, disconcerting, and DISRESPECTFUL!
