So... today I attended my grandfathers funeral. Some random thoughts... 1. The hardest part was seeing my cousins daughter (shes Gretas age) cry. 2. The best part was being able to see my sister that lives in Massachusetts that I havent seen in TOO LONG. Perhaps she drove with me from the church to the cemetery because my car had heated seats. Or perhaps because she misses me as much as I miss her. Ill go with option 2 because it makes me feel better. 3. This was my last grandparent. He lived to 84. A full life. 4. It was freakin cold at the burial. Thankfully, the priest talked very fast. 5. The Catholic Mass was long, but I enjoyed the rituals. Its been too long since Ive been to Mass. The church was beautiful. Breath-taking beautiful. 6. I met my grandmothers youngest brother. Ive met him before, Im sure, but I didnt remember. Hes hilarious but cant hear anything. He sat next to my dad who also has trouble hearing. The two of them talking was funny with all the huh? What did you say? comments. 7. I got to meet my other cousins son for the first time. Hes one. They live in NC. He has the biggest blue eyes. We played peekaboo. 8. I got to see my dad & stepmom twice in two weeks. (One was Christmas) Im lucky if I see them twice a year. 9. My aunt did a great job organizing everything. 10. My other aunt ate a piece of pizza to mock me. (shes probably the one family member that will see my FB post and laugh at this comment.) 11. Today was emotionally draining because of the occasion...yet it was so wonderful to see so many family members. 12. My dad introduces me as The one that gave me a grandchild. 13. I grew up with my mom (my parents divorced when I was 3)...so didnt spend much time with my dads side of the family until after my mom died in 2007. I feel like a part of this family now, too. Sad occasion. Still a day with so many blessings. I am grateful for the life I have.
