So today I decided to burn up some of the rotten, termite infested - TopicsExpress

So today I decided to burn up some of the rotten, termite infested firewood we have in the yard, just to get it out of the way. As I got to the bottom of the pile, more and more creatures were unearthed, most of which scurried away to find a new home. I picked up a log and beat it on the ground a few times to make sure nothing was living in it, then propped it up on the edge of the fire pit to dry out. After a few seconds, a fairly large green tail appeared so I pulled the log away from the fire and started breaking it apart. Dewie appears beside me, watching me dig out the mystery creature. Whats in that one? Im not sure. Its big though. Maybe a snake. YOURE DIGGING OUT A SNAKE? What I saw of it was green. There are no green poisonous snakes in Florida. Settle down. Maybe its just a salamander or something Having chipped away at enough of the log to split it, I pulled the top off to reveal a garter snake. Dewie takes three steps back while doing that hand waving thing that makes her look like shes trying to fly away. ITS A SNAKE! WATCH OUT, IT HAS A TAIL!! Yes Dewie, most snakes are not infinity feet long, so they tend to have tails. No, I mean its a different color. Is it a rattle snake? No, rattle snakes arent green. Its a garter snake. Hes harmless and actually quite pretty. See? He is kind of pretty. Alas, I did not get a picture of him. I didnt have my phone outside. I picked up the whole log and put him in the corner of the yard where its quiet. By the time I went in to get my phone he was gone. Important side note: starting a bonfire when its 96 degrees outside is not a fantastic way to spend a summer afternoon. Also, roasted termites smell kind of good.
