So today I was nearly hit by a car. I was crossing a street on the crosswalk, with a walk signal, and a woman on a cell phone had a green light and was turning left from a one way on to a one way. She didnt see me in the crosswalk and turned right on top of me, coming so close that the cars rearview mirror brushed my arm. Two women behind me in the crosswalk screamed. The woman, driving a florists van, stopped and said, Im so sorry. Are you all right? and I said, God in Heaven, woman, get off your phone. She actually still had it in her hand, the connection still going, when she was talking to me. She didnt see me, she said, which was mighty peculiar, seeing as I was in working gear and wearing blaze orange. I had a close call with Puzzle once, on lead, but even that was not as close as this. She was easily going 30 miles an hour, the two behind me said. It felt *fast.* If this woman had hit me, I dont think I would have survived. (Fortunately, Puzzle was across the street in my car, strapped in, and not a part of this particular adventure.)
