So, today, a customer came in asking for a sound-bar. After making 100 questions he informed me that he is willing to spend 150.00 euros. The expected lecture by yours truly begun, and after explaining to him that it is better to save his money and buy something else instead (like a decent room with breakfast at a hotel) he insisted. i barely moved him to the modestly priced Yamaha soundbar at 289.00 euro. After the initial shock, he accepted that he must spend more, and he told me that all he needs is something to make his TV sound better. I told him that the soundbar of Yamaha will be fine. Then the fun part started. can you open it up for me, so i can bring my movies and test it out? Will it sound the same in my room? How am i going to like the quality? Can we bring some other brands soundbar to compare? I could not take it anymore, and i very politely said: My dear friend, you are going to spend 289.00 euros. Not 28900.00 euros. You are not ALLOWED to ask all these audiophile questions. You have not earned that privilege. You are asking for a HTIB (Home Theater In (a) BOX). Not for a high end system. Did all the chain-stores offer you a demo of their soundbars? All of them? Or did they just checked your products out at the cashier like in a supermarket? I respect your position and the money you have to spend. But also respect, that you have entered a high end audio shop. I can demo the product you liked. But there is where i draw the line.
