So, today at Fat Camp, we stood in our bare feet on the fancy Body - TopicsExpress

So, today at Fat Camp, we stood in our bare feet on the fancy Body Composition Analyzer. Ive lost a little over 2 lbs in one week. My BMI is 28.5, my fat percent 24.7. The interesting part is the suggested body fat - 20%. This scale suggests Ill get there when my weight drops to 192.5 lbs, which is a good bit heavier than Id pictured my final weight. This brings up the question of what constitutes Healthy Weight. Covert Bailey talks about this a lot in Fit Or Fat. BMI is the current Standard, but in a lot of ways, its bullshit. You can be extremely buff, and have a BMI of 30 - muscle is heavy, heavier per volume than fat. So, whats the right body fat % ? Turns out its strongly dependent on age. At my age (50-59), 20% is the low end of suggested. My CURRENT fat percentage is in the Fair range for my age. Im not sorry I started this program, but I feel like my focus on BMI mislead me. Im less overweight than I thought I was. 192.5# will put me at a BMI of 26.3, which puts in Overweight by the CDC guidelines. So, whats my conclusion? I think Ill dip a little below 20% BF, but getting to a BMI of 20 seems a little too light.
