So today has been a great day. Went to church, visited a couple of ward councils, reorganized three priesthood quorums and had stake presidency meeting. And after that full day I came home to a wonderful birthday. It was a group effort with my wife, my sister in law and my daughter in law all contributing. Followed up by an ice cream cake for celebration. It was so good to be surrounded by family after being gone for those four days. While gone I did not talk to too many people because the lectures had 700 people in them and when there are so many you feel more alone. Not very talkative on the way there or back. But comtemplated alot and thought of so many things I can do better in my practice and my life. Finished reading the Happiness Advantage again and wanting to really put the principles in my practice in both my staff and my patients. One of the things he talks about is the Zorro circle. If you remember the movie Zorro where Anthony Hopkins teaches Antonio Banderas how to be Zorro, he made Antonio stand in a small circle and fight. He was not good enough to fight in a large space yet. He had to start by protecting and fighting in a small confined space until he perfected that. Shawn Achor, the author, contrasted that to an executive he worked with who decided she wanted to run a marathon in a month. With no formal training she ended up running no more than 5 miles and had horrible shin splints and could not train and ended 21 miles from her goal, sore and she had quit. To achieve our goals we have to start with small doable goals and go out from there. Without putting a restraint on our overambitious mindsets we can end up dejected and disappointed. With sustained effort we can achieve almost anything. My take home message from this is to have great ambition but sustainable effort. Life is a marathon and as we have a sustainable pace our capacities to do things increase and our rate of improvement will increase. I have so many great things to accomplish and would hope to change the world in a positive direction. That starts with me and then goes one person at a time until the ripple effect occurs and the small waves we create, the people we effect, become a great tidal wave of positive change that may effect millions. It all starts with a sustained by me so that is where I will start, with me and those I influence.
