So today in Linguistics we learned that babies can distinguish any sound from any language at all up until they are between 8 to 10 months old. Once they reach that age, their brains start to tune out foreign languages and focus solely on learning the predominant one they hear. So if we want to create a more educated America, bring on the Cantonese, the Estonian, the Greek and the Spanish and the Italian and the German and all the rest and bring them on as early as you can and as often as you can! And DO NOT fall for the myth that theyll learn to speak English better if thats all they hear. The science is out there, that the best route to multi-lingualism is the route thats taken from the moment babies are born.
