So today is one of those we hate in rescue. .. Drake who has a condition similar to Emma has been in foster with Jennifer Bowman-Davis for sometime now and under our care for over a year.. she tried wheel chairs she made stands she really tried to figure out different things and ways of helping him but it seems he continues to get worse.. due to her work schedule and change in hrs we had him sent back and once he arrived to his new foster we got a message from one of his transporters questioning his quality of life... within a few min we also received a call from Terra who was in tears and said he is just struggling. . He cant take more than 2 to 3 steps on his own without being completely exhausted .. with every move or even while eating his bowel and bladder just constantly drain non stop and due to his physical make up gets all over him .. we have plenty dogs who are paralyzed and who do not have bowel and bladder control but for drake its far beyond that. . Due to his condition and his lungs being compressed the poor guy is just trapped there in his own body unable to move. . He gets depressed watching the other dogs play and is unable to participate and every thing every move is a struggle for him. .. My plan is to pick him up today and spend a few days with him and get another vet opinion but I know in my heart already what it will be and I just cant allow him to continue to suffer... some may disagree but we have saved ones that everyone said we shouldnt even attempt, even ones vets said would never make it that did and we never give up easily but in his case I have to be able to lay my head down at night knowing I made the best possible decision for that animal not for what I want or what others think or want and I beleive for Drake its time to let him go be at peace where he can run and play and eat and do all the things dogs love to do .. I just bahr leave him trapped in his own body hoping maybe this or that will work to let another year pass and know in the end we only allowed him to suffer longer. .
