So, today, the Senate voted that climate change is real (98-1). Yay!. But the way they did that, was because it was attached to the Keystone pipeline bill. Boo! Heres an interesting take on why that happened and how it will play out: It is a bit of a game of chicken, thats why. For Democrats, it is a way to force the Republicans to admit that climate change is real so, going forward, they can use it to help the EPA and the like. For the Republicans, it is the best way to put Obama in an awkward position. If it gets to him he will either have to pass it, going against his previous statement on keystone or veto it, hurting the future prospects for climate arguments. I think at this point Obama will pass the bill and take the shaming for it so the Democrats can regulate the everloving crap out of Keystone when it does start getting built. So, in short, it is exactly how the government should be running, a little give, a little take, and both sides openly stabbing each other in the back.
