So today was a big one. ... Holy Faith as its known in Cycle Against Suicide circles opened the 2015 Congress! It was a fitting tribute for the first school ever to be involved. A brave school that stood up and stood out for all the right reasons. We wanted our students to know that its OK not to feel OK and its absolutely OK to ask for help and we took a step forward in 2012 when we took a leap of Faith in a brand new charity promoting positive mental health. It started when Carla and Nichola wrote a song, it was the first song ever written for Cycle Against Suicide and they were founders of the student leaders programme. I cannot tell you how proud I was today to see 4th Years (and a 3rd year) sing so confidently in such a massive venue, in front of 4000 students and live on the web - they were phenomenal. Our fifth years volunteered all day and boy did they work, they were amazing and then our sixth years (Carla, Caitlin, Grace and Nichola), well what can I say, absolute super stars. This is not to forget our teachers, SNA and chaplain making sure that our students would get to hear the important messages delivered across a range of talks throughout the day. St. Marys were leaders today, they led the way for other schools just starting the journey that we have advanced so much. Today, we let other schools know that its OK not to feel OK and its absolutely OK to ask for help and heres the thing- we made a difference! For me! I just stood and looked with complete pride at the many St Marys students who helped break the cycle of suicide on the island of Ireland and I was very grateful #appreciateyourmind #CASuicde #SLC2015 Ms McLoughlin
